Asia, Africa and Europe have the largest populations and Asia has the largest population projection at 5,290 (million) people. Asia's population momentum is decreasing as shown by the tapering gradient. Africa had the lowest population in 1950 but due to their high fertility rate their population overtook Europe, additionally Africa is the continent with the greatest population momentum. Europe has had a steady and stable population between 1950 and 2050 with only a growth of 122 (million), they are the only continent with a projected decrease in population.
